Daily Grain Network Status – April 26, 2023 APR 27 2023 | Producers | Blog Post

(Regular updates will be available on the Alberta Pulse Growers website.)

Pulse Canada and the CSCA are partners of the Ag Transport Coalition (ATC)*, which tracks performance of the Canadian railway network for the movement of grain.

A new grain network status report has been created to provide stakeholders with comprehensive insight on the performance of the Canadian rail system for the 2020-2021 grain year. The report provides information and data on the status of the rail network as of midnight the previous day.

The railway performance data reported in these reports reflect the performance of rail shipments specifically for grain shippers participating in the Ag Transport Coalition’s railway performance measurement program – estimated to encompass approximately 90-95% of western Canadian originated grain shipments by rail.

April 26, 2023: Report Synopsis

Loads on Wheels

Another significant decline in system loads on wheels yesterday falling below 7,100 cars, the lowest level since early in the grain year.  Loads on wheels have declined 17% (-1,400 cars) in the last 48 hours.

Much of that decline has come on CN and that was the case again yesterday with CN loads on wheels falling below 2,700 cars.

Cars Not Moving

Little movement in the number of cars dwelling 48+ hours yesterday holding just shy of 1,000 cars on a system basis.

Little movement seen for either CN or CP yesterday.

Port Unloads

West coast unloads (913) declining slightly from the prior day and once again below the 1,000 car mark with slight reductions seen at both west coast ports.

Thunder Bay unloads (332) improving and rising above the 300 car mark for the first time in 8 days.
