Daily Grain Network Status – Oct. 14, 2020 OCT 15 2020 | Producers | Blog Post

(Regular updates will be available on the Alberta Pulse Growers website.)

Pulse Canada and the CSCA are partners of the Ag Transport Coalition (ATC)*, which tracks performance of the Canadian railway network for the movement of grain.

A new grain network status report has been created to provide stakeholders with comprehensive insight on the performance of the Canadian rail system for the 2020-2021 grain year.  The report provides information and data on the status of the rail network as of midnight the previous day.

The railway performance data reported in these reports reflect the performance of rail shipments specifically for grain shippers participating in the Ag Transport Coalition’s railway performance measurement program – estimated to encompass approximately 90-95% of western Canadian originated grain shipments by rail.

October 14, 2020: Report Synopsis

Loads on Wheels

· Loads on wheels declined yesterday for the fourth consecutive day, having now fallen from a high of 12,400 cars five days ago to 10,600 cars today.

· Four days into the current week daily loads on wheels are averaging 11,351 cars per day – some 4% lower than at this time last week.  Yesterday’s decline reflects significantly lower volumes on CN while CP volumes rose slightly.

Cars Not Moving

· The system count of cars not moving increased yesterday for the second straight day reflecting higher counts on both railways.

· Thus far this week, average daily counts continue to track 16% lower than last week at slightly more than 1,500 cars per day.

Port Unloads

· West coast unloads (1,555) reached their highest single day total yesterday in more than four months exceeding 1,500 cars for only the second time in the time period with strong unloads reported at both west coast ports.

All daily network status reports are available on the Pulse Canada website.
