Daily Grain Network Status – Jan. 13, 2021 JAN 14 2021 | Producers | Blog Post

(Regular updates will be available on the Alberta Pulse Growers website.)

Pulse Canada and the CSCA are partners of the Ag Transport Coalition (ATC)*, which tracks performance of the Canadian railway network for the movement of grain.

A new grain network status report has been created to provide stakeholders with comprehensive insight on the performance of the Canadian rail system for the 2020-2021 grain year.  The report provides information and data on the status of the rail network as of midnight the previous day.

The railway performance data reported in these reports reflect the performance of rail shipments specifically for grain shippers participating in the Ag Transport Coalition’s railway performance measurement program – estimated to encompass approximately 90-95% of western Canadian originated grain shipments by rail.

January 13, 2021: Report Synopsis

Loads on Wheels

· Loads on wheels declined yesterday remaining just above the 13,000 car threshold.  The decline reflects lower volumes across the board but principally CP.

· Four days into the current week, system volumes continue to track some 12% lower than at this point last week at slightly more than 13,000 cars per day – nearly 2,000 cars less on a daily basis.

Cars Not Moving

· The system count of idle cars remains stubbornly high at more than 4,000 cars on a system basis yesterday with improvement seen on CN while CP shows little change remaining above 3,000 cars.

Port Unloads

· West coast unloads were unchanged from the prior day remaining below the 1,000 car mark for the 2nd straight day once again reflecting below average unloads at Vancouver and continued good unloads at Prince Rupert.
