Daily Grain Network Status – November 29, 2023 NOV 30 2023 | Producers | Blog Post
(Regular updates will be available on the Alberta Pulse Growers website.)
Pulse Canada and the CSCA are partners of the Ag Transport Coalition (ATC)*, which tracks performance of the Canadian railway network for the movement of grain.
A new grain network status report has been created to provide stakeholders with comprehensive insight on the performance of the Canadian rail system for the 2020-2021 grain year. The report provides information and data on the status of the rail network as of midnight the previous day.
The railway performance data reported in these reports reflect the performance of rail shipments specifically for grain shippers participating in the Ag Transport Coalition’s railway performance measurement program – estimated to encompass approximately 90-95% of western Canadian originated grain shipments by rail.
November 29, 2023: Report Synopsis
Loads on Wheels
System loads on wheels continue to decline at an accelerated rate falling below the 8,000 car mark yesterday – the lowest level seen since the first week of September.
Once again a tale of two railways with CN seeing another significant decline and loads on wheels on their network falling below 2,700 cars – the lowest level since mid August.
Cars Not Moving
Slight improvement once again yesterday in the number of cars seeing extended dwell times although counts remain north of 1,200 cars for a 6th consecutive day.
CN leading the improvement yesterday while CP saw counts rise returning near 800 cars – more than double the levels currently being seen on CN.
Port Unloads
West coast unloads (1,350) reporting as significantly higher although we estimate that is likely overstated by 300+ cars due to late reporting once again at Prince Rupert.
Thunder Bay unloads (282) dipping south of the 300 car mark for the first time this week although still trending ahead of last week.
