Industry Innovator Award

The Industry Innovator Award recognizes individuals or organizations that has worked to help nurture and shape the pulse industry and has helped contribute to the success of the industry as it is today. 

Innovators may have contributed to the industry through various areas from production, marketing, research, extension, processing, management, promotion and innovation.

2027 Industry Innovator Award Nominations

The Alberta Pulse Growers Commission is pleased to announce the 13th annual Alberta Pulse Industry Innovator Award.

Nominations may be forwarded to the APG office and will be accepted until December 11, 2026.

Industry Innovator Award Past Winners

  • 2025 – Pulse disease expert Dr. Syama Chatterton
  • 2024 – Pea breeder Dr. DJ Bing
  • 2023 – Former Pulse Canada CEO Gordon Bacon
  • 2022 – Seed grower Cliff Cyre (posthumously)
  • 2021 – APG’s first Vice-President Craig Shaw
  • 2020 – Mark Olson, former Alberta Agriculture’s Unit Head for Pulse Crops
  • 2019 – Kirsty Ross (Piquette), who was instrumental in building the field pea industry in NE Alberta
  • 2018 – Dr. Hans-Henning Muendel, who developed numerous bean cultivars
  • 2017 – Life-long pulse supporter Blair Roth
  • 2016 – Pulse researcher Ken Lopetinsky
  • 2015 – APG founding president Lud Prudek
