Classroom Support Program

Pulses are nutritious, sustainable and versatile foods that fit into Junior High, intermediate and advanced Foods classes as well as CTEC Foods curricula, including FOD 1070 (Farm to Table), FOD 2130 (Vegetarian Cuisine) and FOD 2190 (Grains, legumes, pulses, nuts and seeds).

Alberta Pulse Growers (APG) offers the following resources for Foods teachers:

  •  $25 gift card* per 25 students to purchase pulses (dry or canned pulses) from Loblaws stores such as Superstore, Extra Foods or No Frills Foods *Limits apply.
  • One copy for the teacher of the following APG resources:
  •  For your students, there are Recipes with Nutrition Info or Recipes without Nutrition Info for download or request a set on the Application Form.
  •  The coordinating Pulses: from Farm to Table PowerPoint presentation. It provides information on what pulses are, pulses grown in Alberta, why farmers grow pulses, plus the nutrition and health benefits of pulses. All the background information is included in the “notes” pages on each slide and the presentation coordinates with the Pulses: from Farm to Table workbook.

Project Agriculture provides opportunities to explore agricultural themes, topics, issues and challenges in local and global contexts and encourages junior high school students to interact with each other, their school community, farmers and content experts. The Know Your Food Mobile Exhibition is the ultimate food truck from Agriculture for Life! Explore Alberta agriculture, food literacy and the relationship between agriculture and our daily lives with a visit through this all-new interactive mobile trailer. The Know Your Food exhibit introduces students to Alberta’s very own farm-to-table story, engaging them with interactive education stations that deliver curriculum, science-based, fun and relevant agriculture and food knowledge. The delivery format offers a blend of digital, tactile and conversational style learning, appealing to junior and senior high teachers and students.
