Daily Grain Network Status – November 23, 2021 NOV 24 2021 | Producers | Blog Post

(Regular updates will be available on the Alberta Pulse Growers website.)

Pulse Canada and the CSCA are partners of the Ag Transport Coalition (ATC)*, which tracks performance of the Canadian railway network for the movement of grain.

A new grain network status report has been created to provide stakeholders with comprehensive insight on the performance of the Canadian rail system for the 2020-2021 grain year. The report provides information and data on the status of the rail network as of midnight the previous day.

The railway performance data reported in these reports reflect the performance of rail shipments specifically for grain shippers participating in the Ag Transport Coalition’s railway performance measurement program – estimated to encompass approximately 90-95% of western Canadian originated grain shipments by rail.

November 23, 2021: Report Synopsis

Loads on Wheels

Loads on wheels declined for the second straight day yesterday driven by lower volumes on CP, specifically in the Thunder Bay corridor.

While average daily loads on wheels continue to slightly outpace where last week finished, this is likely to change in the coming days as the Vancouver corridor re-opens.

Cars Not Moving

Positive news for system idle car counts for the first time in more than a week with counts declining by more than 800 cars yesterday led by CP.

The improvement is a reflection of CP resuming operations west of Kamloops yesterday with the majority of the improvement seen in the Vancouver corridor.

Port Unloads

West coast unloads (47) remain low with few unloads reported at either west coast port.

Thunder Bay unloads (377) were strong for the second consecutive day currently running 30% ahead of the last week.
