Daily Grain Network Status – June 19, 2022 JUN 21 2022 | Producers | Blog Post

(Regular updates will be available on the Alberta Pulse Growers website.)

Pulse Canada and the CSCA are partners of the Ag Transport Coalition (ATC)*, which tracks performance of the Canadian railway network for the movement of grain.

A new grain network status report has been created to provide stakeholders with comprehensive insight on the performance of the Canadian rail system for the 2020-2021 grain year. The report provides information and data on the status of the rail network as of midnight the previous day.

The railway performance data reported in these reports reflect the performance of rail shipments specifically for grain shippers participating in the Ag Transport Coalition’s railway performance measurement program – estimated to encompass approximately 90-95% of western Canadian originated grain shipments by rail.

June 19, 2022: Report Synopsis

Loads on Wheels

Consistent with the trend seen throughout the week, average daily system loads on wheels finished out last week averaging more than 4,200 cars per day – the highest level seen in the last six weeks.
Also consistent with the pattern throughout the week, the increase reflects higher volumes for each of CN and CP albeit more notably CN.

Cars Not Moving

Little change seen in system idle car counts last week with an average of 651 cars per day – only marginally higher than the prior week.
We begin week 47 however with a significant jump in counts, rising above the 1,000 car threshold for the first time in nearly two months.

Port Unloads

West coast unloads saw their best week in the last six averaging 357 cars per day last week with improved unloads seen at both Vancouver and Prince Rupert.
Thunder Bay remained pretty much where they were the prior week averaging only 136 cars per day last week.
